After several Friendsgiving and Thanksgiving feasts, anything healthy and tasty was a welcomed departure from all the heavy binge eating and imbibing – insert Kombrewcha. I wase beginning to feel like you’d have to roll me out like Violet Beauregard by the Oompa Loompas in Willy Wonka movie. This beverage is light, effervescent and packed with probiotics, and it’s unlike the normal kombuchas I drink on the regular. The company describes it as “A new kind of brew that you can indulge in without compromise and with just enough alcohol to get you tickled, not pickled.”
Perfect for unwinding after a long day of hustling and grinding in NYC, Kombrewcha is fermented longer to have a higher alcohol percentage, making it a great alternative to calorie dense beers and wines. It may have a lower alcohol content than regular beer (Kombrewcha is only 2% ABV), but the upside is it is completely organic. After going on a sugar binge during Thanksgiving, I’m happy that its only sweetener is pure agave nectar. So, you go without having a crazy sugar spike and Kombrewcha has far fewer calories than wine or beer, which is just as satisfying, refreshing and drinkable.
If you haven’t had Kombucha or for those of you unfamiliar with the beverage, it’s an ultra healthy fermented beverage made from a mixture of black tea, a form of sugar (in this case, organic agave nectar) and a colony of bacteria and yeast, most commonly known as a “SCOBY” .
The fermentation process occurs when the sugar combines with the bacteria and yeast, and it yields this delicious, effervescent health elixir, filled with B-vitamins, probiotics and a high concentration of acetic, gluconic and lactic acids. It is fermented tea your hipster and health conscious friends are always raving about with all of its antioxidants and vitamins.
Kombrewcha is available in several flavors for various palates – my favorite being Lemongrass Lime and Royal Ginger coming in a close second. All flavors available are: Original, Lemongrass Lime, Royal Ginger and Blackberry Hibiscus.
Kombrewcha is alcoholic kombucha with only 65 calories, 4 grams of sugar, and 100% organic with live probiotics. Man more benefits than beer and wine in comparison. You can buy it at Whole Foods, Gourmet Garage and Mini Bar Delivery.
