Multifaceted Fashion: Channeling Your Inner Fab

My style is like a diamond — multifaceted and any way you glance at it, it shines and dazzles. At times it’s more like a diamond in the rough; other times polished and refined.  My closet reflects this sentiment perfectly as a mix of clothing, accessories, bags, and shoes that enable me to channel my inner: Holly Golightly uptown girl, sultry sex kitten, Sienna Miller-esque boho hippie, and even playing with current trends that leave me feeling like a fashion superhero.  Fashion is meant to be fun, so entering my closet is the childlike equivalent of entering an amusement park – yet still not the happiest place on Earth because there’s always room to grow.

Multifaceted Fashion: Function

Variety is the spice of life they say, so for me it’s all about mixing vintage pieces with modern designers and frugal finds for an overall put together look.  I love things with a history and strive to continue on the story and tradition with a contemporary twist.  Some of my favorite dresses were formerly known as muumuu mania.  Putting my personal touch and reworking vintage makes my style unique, eclectic, and I no longer have to worry about wearing the same outfit as someone else.  A little nip tuck here and there doesn’t hurt anybody and who says you have to play by the rules.

I’ve combed through my mother’s closet like it was Barney’s basement sale with the utmost fervor.    The jewels I have mined out of her closet and incorporated into mine will be preserved for hopefully future generations to come.  I never have to play “Well maybe in a past life…” because my clothes were already there and they’ve stood the test of time.

My closet is overflowing with dresses – I mean it is called “dressing up” for a reason, right?  Choose the right accessories and you can mix and match your way into outfit oblivion.  By working hard at my career, it’s granted me the ability to purchase some classic and timeless items (such as a Chanel Jumbo Flap, Chloe Edith, and Louboutin shoes) that make me look and feel like a million bucks, without spending a ton on my complete outfit.  Below are a few examples:Dressing Up: Downtown Style

Dressing Up: Like A Lady

You want me to name names?  With my vintage children aside, let’s just say I’m pretty familiar with Alexander Wang, Marc Jacobs, H&M, Zara, TopShop, Forever 21, Club Monaco, J Crew, Anthropologie, Urban Outfitters, and BCBG.  Though I am slowly becoming good acquaintances with Chanel, Isabel Marant, Chloe’, Yves Saint Laurent, and all their fabulous designer friends. Even though at times I wish I had a bank account that rivaled Warren Buffet’s, the best parts of my closet are anonymous pieces of lived in perfection.  For example, my wool cape (pictured above) was an amazing 1940’s find with the history of a nurse with my exact initials monogrammed  within the burst of sunshine inner lining.  While capes are currently a la mode, I warmly think of the caring lady of an olden day.

Lastly, we all know you want to look good from head to toe (sunglasses down to the shoes!)  So for that special look, sometimes I add:

A little sparkle in my step, Or perhaps  for the days where the “lower I feel, the higher the heel” and when I need a little edge, I totally have boots that are made for walking, walking all over you…
