What’s a better way to shop than after hours and with champagne in hand? Fashion’s Night Out is back for its third yearly installment and globally has grown to epic proportions. On September 8th, rub elbows with your favorite stars and celebs as you mingle with fellow fashionista shoppers. Don’t pass up on the chance to meet-and-greet with designers and snag the limited edition items specially made for the shopping event of the season.
Anna Wintour of Vogue, in collaboration with the CFDA, originally created FNO to kick off New York Fashion Week and to give the economy a boost. So, do your patriotic part and inject a little shopaholic stimulus into the economy.
Our editors have rounded up the Best Bets for FNO 2011 in Miami:
1) Neiman Marcus Bal Harbour
Foodies and fashionistas alike will rejoice and love this event featuring sips and snacks compliments of Epicure Market, Il Mulino New York, Soirée, Texas de Brazil, The Zodiac, Tudor House and Divine Delicacies Cakes. All the while Tara Solomon, Miami’s scene queen, will curate the Fall Trends fashion show accompanied by a “gleeful” chorus.
Dance off those calories to the sounds of DJ Affect, Pitbull’s record producer and Miami’s hottest spin master. Let those tired texting fingers rest with a much-needed hand massage while recharging your cells at the “Blackberry Relief Station” provided by Trump International Beach Resort. Caricatures are so old school, so step it up with the Bordeaux Beauty Bar and receive a lipstick portrait created by the “Lipstick Artists,” who will feature the saturated color palette of the season.
2) Klout VIP Lounge
You won’t get past these velvet ropes unless your a social media maven with a Klout score of at least 40. Whoever has the largest score gets a $500 gift card to the Shops at Bal Harbour for a luxe shopping spree. Take a moment in the lounge to kick back your tired soles from those sky high stilettos and tweet, Facebook, Foursquare, Instagram, Flickr, Google +, and Tumblr to all your closest fashion friends. Don’t forget to actually mingle with the real world while you’re there.
3) YSL
Indulge your sweet tooth and artistic sense at the same time at Yves Saint Laurent with champagne, macarons, and art. The store is donating 15 percent of the evening’s proceeds to the Bass Museum of Art. Whose mission is to inspire and educate by exploring the connection between their historical collections and contemporary art. The celebration will also debut the newest Cabas Chyc Handbag and Fall fashions.
4) Diane Von Furstenberg
Let all five senses run wild over at Diane von Furstenberg’s fete. Partake in some eye catching FlipBook fun, waft the latest DVF fragrance, put your hands all over a special gift with purchase, and of course taste some cocktails and hor d’ourves while listening to a DJ spin some sweet tunes. The party takes place in not one, but two DVF locations, so pick your favorite and get a feast for your senses.
5) Chloe
Camera phone voyeurs and amateur paparazzi can link up their digital wares – cameras or smartphones – to the Polaroid instant mobile printer for of-the-moment shots of the fashion and partygoers. While the champagne will be flowing and the DJ Johnny the Boy will be setting the mood, try to keep the snaps PG-13. Who am I kidding? It’s Miami, so it’s Rated R for Risque.
6) Design District
Normally the neighborhood for ArtWalks, the Design District is hosting an evening of various fashion for a change of pace. At least 13 retailers will participate in the FNO’s activities, including The Webster at Luminaire, Marni, Maison Martin Margiela, Duncan Quinn, Anya Ponorovskaya, En Avance, Tomas Maier, Kiliwatch Miami, Nectar de Stagni, Sebastien James, Turchin Love & Light Collection, I on the District and Y-3.
Score some major deals like 50% off at Y-3 or try to find enlightenment with a few monks at Turchin Love & Light Collection. Shoppers also can enjoy complimentary Grey Goose cocktails at Oak Plaza on 39th Street. Agape and Artofficial will be performing live from 9pm to 11pm at Palm Court. You can’t beat free booze, beats, and Buddhists.
This past Tuesday afternoon, the big reveal heard round the world started with eighty Mystery Boxes around the nation and specifically at six Neiman Marcus locations, including the NorthPark and Fort Worth stores. The news spread like wildfire virally due to word of mouth, news outlets, and the omnipresent help of social media as TOMS founder, Blake Mycoskie unveiled the next chapter of the philanthropic brand.
Onlookers patiently waited with refreshments and DJ melodies in-store while huge cylindrical tubes under lock and key mysteriously tempted consumers of what new surprise Mycoskie had in store. Huge applause, smiles, and congratulations were abound as the new concept for TOMS Shoes is that they are no longer just a shoe company, but a one-for-one company. The SMU alum and Arlington native boasted of the quite literal visionary venture that TOMS is undertaking by branching out into an eyewear line.
For every pair of sunglasses sold, TOMS will help give sight to a person in need through medical treatment, prescription glasses, or sight-saving surgery through a partnership with the Seva Foundation. While the end goal is to help give sight to people in need all around the world, the TOMS team will begin in Nepal, Cambodia, and Tibet.
Blake was quoted, “ TOMS could be more than a shoe company – it should be a one for one™ company. With so many different needs around the world, I felt TOMS had an obligation to try to improve as many lives as possible.”
The TOMS new collection of sunglasses is priced from $135 to $145 a pair, available both in men and women’s styles. The motto is that every stripe tells a story. The design of each pair ties in the charitable story and background of yourself, the person you’re helping, and toms the brand that binds it all together. Head to your nearest Neiman’s to scoop up a pair or two and someone overseas will thank you for your shady behavior.
Neiman Marcus is located at 400 NorthPark Center, in Dallas, or you can find more information and purchase the new TOMS collection online at http://www.toms.com/eyewear/our-movement/.
