On Sunday, crowds braved the sweltering heat to support the newest kid on the East Dallas block, Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House. Matt Tobin, the owner of Vickery Park, and Josh Yingling, the bearded bar wrangler and manager, are the duo behind the vision.

The Construction Patio Party gave patrons a preview of what’s in-store for the nightlife and foodie scene later this summer. Hundreds came out to support the latest endeavor and the crowd consisted of some of the usual characters from the Henderson block, a mix of the Lakewood crowd, beer enthusiasts, fashionable tastemakers, and some furry four-legged friends.

The expansive space features a Texas-sized horseshoe shaped bar that leaves ample elbowroom, so you won’t waste anytime ordering up a drink and can get straight to the conversation. A massive tap system is going in place very soon and the finish out will accent all the striking wood surroundings.

Huge garage doors were drawn up as it brought in the sunlight for partygoers to bask in and provides easy access to the patio. The sprawling patio features cedar trellises, which are to be completed with covered awnings, so princesses like me will no longer be drowning in our own sweat. A personal favorite décor highlight is the gorgeous reclaimed wooden doors that welcome visitors with diamond shaped detailing.

Even after the free flowing beer, wine, and Jameson ran out after a few hours, Goodfriend was still a buzz as the crowd chilled out and conversed for a while longer because that’s the kind of spot it is.  The good energy, endless possibilities and the cute tatted eye candy kept Sunday Funday rolling on. Not even the 104-degree temperature could stop good times from being had at Goodfriend.

While it’s off the beaten path of the normal Uptown bubble, that’s the essence of what makes the up and coming area revival of Casa Linda, East Dallas, and Lakewood exciting, vibrant, and filled with much personality and creativity. Many can see why entrepreneurs are flocking to the neighborhood for future expansions, as it has a laid back Austin feel with a Big D twist.

Goodfriend is sandwiched between to Good-to-Go Tacos and a future seafood joint to round it out the tasty burgers they’ll be serving up, so you’ll be able to have a delicious late night fix whatever your tastes may be. Start whetting your palate for Adult Happy Meals, think damn good naturally grass fed burgers and fries while washing it down with a perfectly paired cold craft beer. If that didn’t already bring a childlike smile to your face, the addition of Kool-Aid on the menu definitely will.

So I’ll be counting down the days until the doors officially open sometime in mid-August, but mark my words I know we’re going to be mighty fine Goodfriends.

Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House is located at 1154 Peavy Rd., Dallas, TX 75218. Scheduled to open in Mid-August.

Lipstick Traces

Wildfox Couture Tee (c/o Moderne), J Brand Jean Leggings, Vintage Cateye Sunnies, LAMB Platforms

National Kissing Day was just the other day, so I hope you puckered up and planted a few on your honey. As the temperatures are climbing to boiling points, Summer romances are heating up rapidly, wearing clothes seems optional and the bare minimum is quite acceptable. Wildfox Couture has the cutesy and cheeky tees that instantaneously bring smiles to your face. On days i want to literally be covered in kisses from head to toe, the Lipstick Traces tee leaves kiss prints and pecks in all the right places.

It makes for the perfect beach day, messy bed head look as you throw it over a itty, bitty bikini or top off a pair of leg lengthening skinnies or summer shorts staple for a suitable public worthy look.

Wildfox Couture‘s name alone makes me think of one of my favorite Antoine de Saint-Exupéry quotes from Le Petite Prince.

“Just that,” said the fox. “To me, you are still nothing more than a little boy who is just like a hundred thousand other little boys. And I have no need of you. And you, on your part, have no need of me. To you, I am nothing more than a fox like a hundred thousand other foxes. But if you tame me, then we shall need each other. To me, you will be unique in all the world. To you, I shall be unique in all the world…”

Until then… this little wild fox will keep running on.

Come Sunday, get your fill of Foster the People with a plethora of events in Dallas. The Los Angeles band has been sweeping the nation with their catchy tunes, more-than-what-meets-the-eye lyrics, and boyish good looks. Mark Foster is the leading man, while band mates Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus round out the harmonious sounds in their coming soon debut album, Torches. Here’s the low down on what’s in store this weekend…

Starting off at Good Records at 6:30pm – get close and personal with the band as they do a live set in-store. Get there early, so you can score a sweet spot for prime swooning as Mark Foster et al sing a few of their hits. Be sure to peruse the latest records before the performance as Good Records is a haven of ear candy . This one is dedicated for all you cash strapped kiddos, it’s FREE-ninety-nine.
Good Records is located at 1808 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75206.

Immediately following, hustle on over to The Loft for their sold-out show at 7:30pm. The band is on a nation-wide tour after garnering a huge following after Coachella, which has been selling out night after night, city after city. Seriously, catch these boys while you can if they come into a town near you. Tickets were $10, but go befriend a sketchy scalper if you want entry to this standout show.
The Loft is located at 1135 S Lamar St, Dallas, TX 75215.

Cool off at the Joule Poule as the Midnight Summer Session kicks off with Foster the People doing a DJ set. While I have no idea of their mix master skills, with enough cocktails and libations and the simple fact that the people watching alone will be worth the entry fee. Apparently the $40 tickets has sold out, but word on the street is that there may still be some $500 cabanas left. Grab your gaggle of band groupies, throw down some cash, take a dip in the pool overlooking Downtown and lay out underneath the starry sky.
The Joule Hotel is located at 1530 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75201. RSVP to info@thejouledallas.com or by calling 214.748.1300.

For all the skeptics still not convinced, watch their claim to fame below or take a listen to their acoustic XM set of their famed “Pumped Up Kicks”.  See you Sunday, my fellow Lushies!

Gypsy Rose

First dates are treacherous enough, but the anxiety from trying to figure out the perfect outfit can make a girl crazy and leave her ripping a closet apart in search of “The One”. No, I’m not talking about finding Mr. Right in my walk-in, but “The One” outfit that is the perfect amount of sweetness mixed with an ounce of sexiness, toss in some romanticism, and of course top if off with some confidence and height boosting heels.

The moment I laid eyes on this Mink Pink Gypsy Rose Blouse, I knew the possibilities were endless. Sheer enough to keep a mind wondering, but still opaque enough to be demure (with the right undergarments, ahem!) The flowy silhouette is ideal for twirling around like the princess you are, but also forgiving enough for your fat days where nothing seems to fit. The poet sleeves make me wish for handwritten love letters and the gauzy top paints the imagery of hazy dreams.

For DayMink Pink Gypsy Rose Blouse: Paired it With some dark denim J Brand High Rise Skinny Jeans.

For NightMink Pink Gypsy Rose Blouse:  Tucked it into a vintage high waisted cream mini with Alaia-esque detailing and threw on some “Single Girl Louboutin Shoes”.

My day outfit ended up bringing me luck with a group of three fine men from Australia and England at my fave sandwich stop. While I didn’t find a love connection with any, I did share the Welsh wealth with my single ladies. Just like in sports, no one likes a ball hog.

My night outfit was reserved for dinner and dancing, which you’ll get a taste of in my next entry about Red Light, Little River. Let’s just say, if only I could feel as excited for a man, as I do for fashion or food…

The lovely ladies from Moderne are offering FABULUSH readers 15% off all purchases with code: FABULUSH.
