Tonight while you root on the Rangers, head to the Bishop Arts District for Dallas’ first ever Pop-up bar. In clandestine speak-easy style, you’ll walk into a garage building that has been transformed into a place of libations and perhaps some sinful delight. You’ll pony up for some tickets in lieu of cash, whisper your favorite flavors and liquors you fancy, and watch the mixology magic happen as you support a few great charities.

Find your way a bit past Bolsa at 828 W. Davis St and make sure to stop by soon, as Bar 828 is lasting only for a few weekends in October leading up to the opening of Michael Martenen’s ‘High and Rye’ off Main St. The concept is taking New York’s guerrilla style Pop-Up shop ideas and fusing it with pre-Prohibition style times. Mingle with some indie artists, meet your next Uptown cutie, and watch your bartender take an ice pick a chunk of ice block to chill that creative cocktail of yours.

Michael Martensen has assembled a roster of top mixologists, designers and artists from the area, who have signed on to volunteer, with the proceeds benefiting Falling Whistles and Promise House, a local charity that helps runaway teens get off the street.

The FALLING WHISTLES Tour Bus will be in attendance and spreading its powerful message to the masses. As seen on and supported by a slew celebrities and peace activists, the Falling Whistles campaign launched with a simple response – be a whistleblower for peace in Congo.

Proceeds go to rehabilitate and advocate for war-affected children. Share their story and speak up for them. What began as a story exposing the world’s largest and deadliest war, has become a campaign for peace in Congo. Make their weapon your voice and rock a conversation starting piece of jewelry in the process.

Bar 828, 828 W Davis St, Dallas, TX 75208 starts at 6 P.M.

Support the cause and become a whistleblower for peace: FALLING WHISTLES Limited Edition Gold Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Ox Zinc Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Original Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Gunmetal Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Bronze Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Copper Whistle / FALLING WHISTLES Brushed Whistle

Come Sunday, get your fill of Foster the People with a plethora of events in Dallas. The Los Angeles band has been sweeping the nation with their catchy tunes, more-than-what-meets-the-eye lyrics, and boyish good looks. Mark Foster is the leading man, while band mates Cubbie Fink and Mark Ponitus round out the harmonious sounds in their coming soon debut album, Torches. Here’s the low down on what’s in store this weekend…

Starting off at Good Records at 6:30pm – get close and personal with the band as they do a live set in-store. Get there early, so you can score a sweet spot for prime swooning as Mark Foster et al sing a few of their hits. Be sure to peruse the latest records before the performance as Good Records is a haven of ear candy . This one is dedicated for all you cash strapped kiddos, it’s FREE-ninety-nine.
Good Records is located at 1808 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75206.

Immediately following, hustle on over to The Loft for their sold-out show at 7:30pm. The band is on a nation-wide tour after garnering a huge following after Coachella, which has been selling out night after night, city after city. Seriously, catch these boys while you can if they come into a town near you. Tickets were $10, but go befriend a sketchy scalper if you want entry to this standout show.
The Loft is located at 1135 S Lamar St, Dallas, TX 75215.

Cool off at the Joule Poule as the Midnight Summer Session kicks off with Foster the People doing a DJ set. While I have no idea of their mix master skills, with enough cocktails and libations and the simple fact that the people watching alone will be worth the entry fee. Apparently the $40 tickets has sold out, but word on the street is that there may still be some $500 cabanas left. Grab your gaggle of band groupies, throw down some cash, take a dip in the pool overlooking Downtown and lay out underneath the starry sky.
The Joule Hotel is located at 1530 Main Street, Dallas, TX 75201. RSVP to info@thejouledallas.com or by calling 214.748.1300.

For all the skeptics still not convinced, watch their claim to fame below or take a listen to their acoustic XM set of their famed “Pumped Up Kicks”.  See you Sunday, my fellow Lushies!

Ever since I was a child, I’ve been so lash obsessed that I’d run around giving those tickling butterfly kisses to every cheek possible. I envied former beaus for their eye framing eyelashes. Those who can, do. Those who can’t, wear fake lashes. I wore them all the time. I even went to the extent of going boating with a now-former boyfriend and his friends and needless to say, high speed sailing and the elements left a lash strip dangling and my secret out in the open. Not a good look I tell you, so what’s a lash fiending lady suppose to do?

The wonderful women at NovaLash sent me to Shannon at Lash Studio in West Village, touting that she is the creme de la creme of eyelash extensions in Dallas. I’ve had horror stories and I’ve seen friends with some scary spidery versions of extensions, but I did my extensive research and bit the bullet. Let me tell you, Shannon did not disappoint. I wanted to party like a rockstar this past Super Bowl/Birthday weekend; worry free that I would pull another faux lash faux pas.
